Semaglutide dose in units: conversion chart

Short answer
Units depend on the solution's concentration, not on semaglutide itself: U-100 units = dose mg ÷ concentration mg/mL × 100. Example: at 2.5 mg/mL, 0.25 mg is 10 units and 1 mg is 40 units. Ozempic and Wegovy pens deliver doses in mg, not syringe units, so follow the prescription for a branded pen. Arithmetic checked Oct 19, 2026.

Units on a U-100 syringe
0.5 mg ÷ 2.5 = 0.2 mL = 20 U
100 units = 1 mL, so units = mL × 100 (rounded to 0.5 U).
People search “how many units is 1 mg of Ozempic” because syringes are marked in units while prescriptions are written in mg. The answer depends on one number: how many mg are in each mL of the solution. This page converts every label dose at four common concentrations.
Semaglutide units chart
| Dose | 1 mg/mL | 2 mg/mL | 2.5 mg/mL | 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 mg | 25 U | 12.5 U | 10 U | 5 U |
| 0.5 mg | 50 U | 25 U | 20 U | 10 U |
| 1 mg | 100 U | 50 U | 40 U | 20 U |
| 1.7 mg | over 100 U | 85 U | 68 U | 34 U |
| 2 mg | over 100 U | 100 U | 80 U | 40 U |
| 2.4 mg | over 100 U | over 100 U | 96 U | 48 U |
“Over 100 U” means the dose is more than 1 mL and does not fit in a standard 1 mL U-100 syringe. The dose rows are the published label steps for Wegovy (0.25, 0.5, 1, 1.7, 2.4 mg) and Ozempic (0.25, 0.5, 1, 2 mg). (Novo Nordisk, Jun 18, 2026) (Novo Nordisk, Jun 1, 2026)
The same chart in mL, for anyone using a syringe marked in mL:
| Dose | 1 mg/mL | 2 mg/mL | 2.5 mg/mL | 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0.25 mg | 0.25 mL | 0.125 mL | 0.10 mL | 0.05 mL |
| 0.5 mg | 0.50 mL | 0.25 mL | 0.20 mL | 0.10 mL |
| 1 mg | 1.00 mL | 0.50 mL | 0.40 mL | 0.20 mL |
| 1.7 mg | 1.70 mL | 0.85 mL | 0.68 mL | 0.34 mL |
| 2.4 mg | 2.40 mL | 1.20 mL | 0.96 mL | 0.48 mL |
For any other concentration, use the semaglutide units calculator.
The formula, step by step
U-100 is the standard insulin syringe scale: 100 units equal 1 mL, so 1 unit is 0.01 mL. Converting a dose takes two steps.
- Find the concentration. If the label gives it in mg/mL, use that. If it gives total mg and total mL, divide: a 5 mg vial in 2 mL is 2.5 mg/mL.
- Divide the dose by the concentration and multiply by 100. For 0.25 mg at 2.5 mg/mL: 0.25 ÷ 2.5 = 0.1 mL, and 0.1 × 100 = 10 units.
Running it backward checks the work: 10 units ÷ 100 = 0.1 mL, and 0.1 mL × 2.5 mg/mL = 0.25 mg. Where the concentration comes from a vial and water, the semaglutide reconstitution chart covers 2, 5, 10 and 20 mg vials.
Label ladders mapped to units
These tables walk the two label ladders at 2.5 mg/mL and 5 mg/mL. They are arithmetic illustrations of the published steps, not a dosing plan for any compounded product.
| Weeks | Label dose | Units at 2.5 mg/mL | Units at 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1–4 | 0.25 mg | 10 U | 5 U |
| 5–8 | 0.5 mg | 20 U | 10 U |
| 9–12 | 1 mg | 40 U | 20 U |
| 13–16 | 1.7 mg | 68 U | 34 U |
| 17 onward | 2.4 mg | 96 U | 48 U |
| Step | Label dose | Minimum time | Units at 2.5 mg/mL | Units at 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Initiation | 0.25 mg | 4 weeks | 10 U | 5 U |
| Step 2 | 0.5 mg | 4 weeks | 20 U | 10 U |
| Step 3 | 1 mg | 4 weeks | 40 U | 20 U |
| Maximum | 2 mg | — | 80 U | 40 U |
Wegovy’s optional 7.2 mg step (Wegovy HD) would be 288 units at 2.5 mg/mL and 144 units at 5 mg/mL, well past one syringe. It is sold only as a 7.2 mg/0.75 mL single-dose pen. The titration calculator puts the steps on a calendar.
Why “how many units is 1 mg of Ozempic” has no single answer
Ozempic pens are not syringes. They are set to a labeled mg dose and deliver that dose, so there are no syringe units to count. The label lists three pens, each built for specific doses:
| Pen | Labeled concentration | Doses it delivers |
|---|---|---|
| 2 mg/3 mL | 0.68 mg/mL | 4 × 0.25 mg and 2 × 0.5 mg, or 4 × 0.5 mg |
| 4 mg/3 mL | 1.34 mg/mL | 4 × 1 mg |
| 8 mg/3 mL | 2.68 mg/mL | 4 × 2 mg |
Wegovy works the same way. Its single-dose pens deliver one fixed dose each, and the FlexTouch pen (9.6 mg/3 mL, 3.2 mg/mL) delivers four 2.4 mg doses. (Novo Nordisk, Jun 18, 2026) With a branded pen, follow the prescription and the pen’s instructions. The pen-to-vial calculator shows the mg arithmetic for a pen and a vial side by side so the two can be compared on paper; it does not convert a prescription, and this site does not describe drawing medicine out of a pen.
Syringe capacity and the 100-unit ceiling
Because 100 units equal 1 mL on a U-100 scale, a syringe with a 0.3 mL barrel holds 30 units, a 0.5 mL barrel 50 units and a 1 mL barrel 100 units. A dose that needs more units than the syringe holds cannot be measured in one draw, which is why the chart above marks some cells “over 100 U”.
| Syringe | Capacity | Largest label dose at 2.5 mg/mL | Largest label dose at 5 mg/mL |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.3 mL | 30 U | 0.5 mg (20 U) | 1 mg (20 U) |
| 0.5 mL | 50 U | 1 mg (40 U) | 2.4 mg (48 U) |
| 1 mL | 100 U | 2.4 mg (96 U) | 2.4 mg (48 U) |
Concentration also affects how readable a dose is. At 5 mg/mL, the 0.25 mg starting step is only 5 units (0.05 mL); at 2.5 mg/mL it is 10 units (0.10 mL).
Common unit-conversion errors
| Mistake | Example | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Using units from a chart built for a different concentration | 20 U read from a 5 mg/mL chart, used at 2.5 mg/mL | 0.5 mg instead of 1 mg |
| Reading mg as mL | 0.25 mg drawn as 0.25 mL of 5 mg/mL | 1.25 mg, five times the dose |
| Mixing up total mg and mg/mL | 5 mg in 2 mL treated as 5 mg/mL | Half the intended dose |
| Ignoring the 100-unit ceiling | 1.7 mg at 1 mg/mL = 170 U | Needs more than one syringe |
Each row is plain arithmetic, but each one changes the delivered amount by a factor of two or more. Recalculate from the label, then check the reverse direction.
Regulatory note on compounded semaglutide
Unit math is mostly relevant to compounded vials. The FDA declared the semaglutide injection shortage resolved on February 21, 2025, and says “Compounded drugs are not approved by FDA.” (FDA, Feb 21, 2025) (FDA, Apr 1, 2026) Compounded products are not interchangeable with Wegovy or Ozempic. For approval history and trial data, see the semaglutide hub. Talk to your prescriber before acting on any number here.
Frequently asked questions
How many units is 1 mg of Ozempic?
- Ozempic has no unit count. The Ozempic pen is dialed in mg and delivers the labeled dose; the 1 mg dose comes from the 4 mg/3 mL pen (1.34 mg/mL as labeled), which holds four 1 mg doses. Unit counts only apply when a solution is drawn into a U-100 syringe, and then they depend on concentration: 1 mg is 40 units at 2.5 mg/mL and 20 units at 5 mg/mL. Follow your prescription and pen instructions.
How many units is 0.25 mg of semaglutide?
- On a U-100 syringe, 0.25 mg is 25 units at 1 mg/mL, 12.5 units at 2 mg/mL, 10 units at 2.5 mg/mL and 5 units at 5 mg/mL. The formula is 0.25 ÷ concentration × 100. Check the concentration on the pharmacy label first; the units are meaningless without it.
How many units is 0.5 mg of semaglutide?
- At 1 mg/mL it is 50 units, at 2 mg/mL 25 units, at 2.5 mg/mL 20 units and at 5 mg/mL 10 units on a U-100 syringe. That is 0.50, 0.25, 0.20 and 0.10 mL. Branded Ozempic and Wegovy deliver 0.5 mg through the pen in mg, not units.
What is a semaglutide units chart?
- It is a table that converts each mg dose into units on a U-100 insulin syringe at a stated concentration. This page's chart covers the Wegovy and Ozempic label steps (0.25 to 2.4 mg) at 1, 2, 2.5 and 5 mg/mL. It is arithmetic for lyophilized compounded vials, which are not FDA approved.
How many units is 2.4 mg of semaglutide?
- At 2.5 mg/mL, 2.4 mg is 96 units; at 5 mg/mL it is 48 units. At 2 mg/mL it is 120 units and at 1 mg/mL 240 units, both more than one standard 1 mL U-100 syringe. Wegovy delivers 2.4 mg in a 0.75 mL single-dose pen or in the FlexTouch pen, with no units to count.
How many mL is 10 units of semaglutide?
- On a U-100 syringe, 10 units is always 0.10 mL, whatever the drug. How much semaglutide that holds depends on concentration: 0.1 mg at 1 mg/mL, 0.2 mg at 2 mg/mL, 0.25 mg at 2.5 mg/mL and 0.5 mg at 5 mg/mL. Units measure volume, not drug amount.
